Chapter 12

Dre and Stacy had been on the Island of Jamaica for a week, enjoying everything that Montego Bay had to offer. When they weren't in their beachfront cottage, they were out dining, partying or on the beach, among other places.

Dre sat on a beach chair in back of the cottage thinking about Stacy as he fingered the sleek velvet box in his hand. He had outdone himself with the exquisite gift. A day earlier, he had slipped away from Stacy and purchased the five-carat diamond necklace from the premiere jeweler on the island. The bracelet represented something different than the clothes, money and the trip Dre had showered her with.

Dre entered the cottage. He could hear water running in the room. Their personal chef and housekeeper had left. He pocketed the bracelet and strolled out in front of the cottage onto the patio. Dre sat on one of the wicker chairs surrounding the large table that was covered by an even larger umbrella. He removed his Cartier frames and placed them on the table, concentrating on the view around him. Dre saw nothing but beauty. From the coconut trees perfectly placed along the huge manicured grounds, to the deep blue sea and white sands. The ambiance created was so different than what he found back in Detroit. His life had truly changed as he rose to prominence. Never had he imagined sitting in the comfort of an exotic island with a beautiful woman he loved. To add to that, were riches that had made life comfortable for him, his family, and friends. This was not the type of life that usually unfolded for a child of the ghetto who had a father in prison and a list of dead homies.

Dre removed a bag of weed from his pocket and rolled a spliff with Rizla paper. He sparked the spliff and inhaled. Leaning back as the potent weed quickly brought forth the euphoric feeling he desired, Dre eased further down into the comfortable chair. “This is the life,” he mumbled to himself and closed his eyes.

Dre felt Stacy creeping behind him before he opened his eyes to see her peering down at him. “You look so good,” he said.

“You too, since I braided your hair and dressed you.”

Dre laughed, but he felt good with his fresh cornrows, Armani shorts, and shirt with a tank top beneath it. It gave him a sort of preppy yet rugged look. If it had not been for the diamond Rolex on his arms and the Cartier frames he had just placed on the table, Dre could have easily passed for a vacationing college student. But the irony was that he was one of the wealthiest street hustlers in Detroit who was on vacation with a college student.

Stacy plopped down in his lap and began playfully kissing him.

“You taste good,” Dre said when they were done. He wrapped his arms around her waist. She reached for his spliff. “Let me hit that.”

“You don't even sound right saying that.
